Frequently Asked Questions 

How much will my book sell for ? 

That depends on you. We will set a mutually agreed sales price (though I am sure you will agree this will be realistic) which will then be shown on your sales details. 

You said that some of the book will be free for the purchaser prior to their buying ? 

Yes. Anyone prepared to part with their hard earner money, especially on an author they have probably not heard of, will need to be able to see some of the writing as well as a synopsis before they commit to buy. We will mutually agree how many “Free” pages that should be when your work is placed on the site. 

How much of this do I get ?

You will be paid 40% of the book sales value, i.e. 40p in the £, if your book sells for £2.99p you will receive £1.20p. Pro rata on any other sales price.  

What happens to the other 60% ? 

The other 60% will be the commission charge for handling the book on the site and all the related costs involved in running the site administration, secure payments methods, payments to authors etc. 

Will I be responsible for my own tax ? 

Yes. The tax on all payments made to you will be your responsibility. 

How do I know when my books sell ? 

You will receive a statement each month (by email) to inform you of the sales activity of your book or books. (If more than one, each title will have a separate report) This will be independently accounted at the end of each year to maintain complete transparency. Any author may then inspect these verifications should they wish. 

When will I be paid ? 

At the end of each month, providing your account is over the £30 minimum payment amount. If your account is below this it will continue until it is over that amount and then will be paid. This statement will accompany your monthly sales activity report.  

Am I still legally responsible for the content of my book ? 

Yes. Any libel, deformation or any other legal or moral obligations are the responsibility of the author as will be checking any stated facts or requirements of any permissions needed. 

What help do you offer with marketing ? 

We will help you as much as we can to make your work look good on our sales site. This is in our interest as much as yours. If you do not have a dynamic title or cover, we will help where possible (a third party over view is quite often all it takes).  

Do you offer any editorial help ? 

Although not our main service, again yes, we will be happy to help where required. Some people will need more help than others in this respect. Jayne has helped several people to great effect in this area. In fact we will always try our best with help and suggestions.  

You say that my book will be sold electronically, just what is an eBook ? 

An eBook is a completely electronic version of an ordinary printed book. Many people believe you need to purchase an expensive piece of hardware to read eBooks and indeed we do sell one of the new electronic book readers on the site (and in our opinion it’s worth every penny for it’s portability and user friendliness to avid readers), however eBooks can be read on home computers, laptops and handheld PDA’s. They are PDF (Portable Document Format) files. You do not need to be a brain surgeon to work the downloads and we feel that this is an area which will grow and grow over the coming years. Our slogan “Saving paper and creating choice” illustrates our belief.  

When a customer buys my book, what happens next ? 

After they have downloaded the free section and chosen to buy the whole book, they click on our secure payment shopping cart button which takes them to a payment page. Here they fill in their payment method details and the transaction is completed. Once this is done, our server sends an almost immediate thank you email with instruction (including the download code) which enables them to complete downloading your work to their computer or storage device. The payment is then notified to New Writers eBooks 4 U and listed in your account ready of the monthly report and payment.

  Where will my eBook be sold ? 

The true beauty and strength of the internet is that the answer to your question is truly… All over the world. Wherever people have a link to the internet and look at our site and thereby your work, is your potential market.

Who can submit a manuscript ? 

Anyone who believes they have a book that will be good enough to interest people and to sell. We will be happy to look at the work.  

Do I have to give New Writers eBooks 4 U exclusive rights to sell my work ?

 

No. We will market your work on an understanding that if you wish to remove it from our site you are able to do so subject to a 28 days written request. We sincerely hope that you land a publishing deal from a mainstream publisher and encourage you to continue your search for a publishing deal. Indeed, we will be delighted for you.
